A man hurled abuse at his partner after the couple had been forced to live together during the coronavirus lockdown, Dundee Sheriff Court heard.
Michael Graczyk, 39, and his partner had been living apart but were forced to move in together to adhere to the Covid-19 restrictions.
The court was told that living together had created tension in the relationship which led to a terminal bust-up.
After being told the relationship had come to an end, Sheriff Alastair Carmichael told Graczyk it was “not unusual for that to happen in the circumstances”.
Graczyk, Pitalpin Court, Dundee, admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner towards the woman at an address in Dundee on Tuesday.
He admitted shouting, swearing and issuing insults which caused his now ex-partner fear and alarm.
Depute fiscal John Williamson told the court: “They had been in a relationship for approximately three years and normally lived at separate addresses.
“But, due to the current crisis, the accused had been living with the complainer for the past few weeks.
“There was an argument between them in relation to household finances.
“It was less than cordial. He called her a variety of terms of abuse and was overheard by the neighbours. The complainer contacted police.
“When officers arrived she was found to be visibly distressed.”
Solicitor Jim Caird said: “He is 39 and hasn’t really been in trouble for quite some years. He had spent some weeks living under lockdown conditions with his girlfriend.
“They normally live separately and there has been some tension between them in the circumstances of them living together. It developed into some sort of argument.
“They started calling each other names. He is 39 and should know better. It is his position that the relationship is now over. He can’t see them getting back as it has been deteriorating over this period.”
Sheriff Carmichael said: “You have been out of trouble for a while and I can understand that tensions can escalate during lockdown. You don’t normally behave this way.”
He deferred sentence and ordered Graczyk to behave until August, and banned him from contacting or approaching his former partner.
