A vicious street attack in Dunfermline town centre has resulted in a £750 penalty for the man responsible.
Kevin Howard assaulted an innocent passer-by believing he had hit his girlfriend in an earlier incident outside a nightclub,
Howard, 29, of Allan Park, Hill of Beath, admitted that on March 28 last year at Douglas Street, Dunfermline, he assaulted Jordan Allardice by repeatedly punching him on the head and body to his injury.
Depute fiscal Louise Graham said the victim had been on a night out with friends and had just left a nightclub. He witnessed an incident involving a female which resulted in her falling to the ground.
Mr Allardice was accused as being the person responsible and walked away towards Douglas Street.
As he did so he was attacked by Howard and punched four times to his head and body.
After being apprehended by police, Howard said: “I’m really sorry.”
Mr Allardice sustained a black eye, a swollen nose and a mark on his cheek. He went to hospital the next day to have his injuries examined.
Defence solicitor Barbara Collie said her client had been on a night out and consumed alcohol.
“He saw his girlfriend lying on the ground and was told by another male that the complainer had assaulted her,” she added.
“He foolishly made the decision to go after him, acting in the heat of the moment. He is ashamed to be appearing in court and is very sorry for his actions.”
Sheriff Craig McSherry fined Howard £500 and ordered him to pay £250 compensation.
