A football casual who attacked stewards during a Dundee derby match has escaped a football banning order because of the pandemic.
Sheriff George Way told Shaun Murray there was no point banning him from matches when fans are not being allowed into grounds at the moment anyway.
Murray attacked two stewards during the derby clash between Dundee FC and Dundee United at Dens Park on November 8 last year.
Murray, 35, of Glenmarkie Terrace, Dundee, admitted headbutting Joe Devine and Victoria Penman in the concourse of the Bob Shankly Stand.
Both Murray and co-accused Rhys Maddison, 34, of Law Crescent, Dundee, admitted possessing cocaine when arrested.
Depute fiscal Laura Hogg, speaking through an online link, told the court Murray had two bags of powder which contained a total of £120 worth of cocaine, while Maddison had one bag containing cocaine worth £80.
Sheriff Way told Dundee Sheriff Court: “I have taken the view that these offences were not directly related to involvement in the actual football match.
“There is effectively no football anyway from the point of view of spectators, so I’m not going to make a football banning order.”
The sheriff ordered Murray to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the community and Maddison was fined £700.
