A Fife teenager who went home to arm himself with two knives following a back garden row with a friend is due to be sentenced next month.
Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court heard the 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, returned to a property in Inverewe Place in Dunfermline on May 15 while in possession of two 16-inch knives.
The teenager also attempted to headbutt and spit on a police officer who had been called to take him into custody.
Appearing in person at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, the 16-year-old boy pled guilty to both charges before Sheriff Jamie Gilchrist.
Fiscal Ronnie Hay said the boy had been with a friend in a back garden from around 6pm on May 15 before “banter changed into an argument”.
At around 10.15pm, he contacted his mother and told her he was returning home to “collect knives”, at which point his mother and father collected up all the knives in the house and hid them in their garage.
After searching the house the teenager broke into the garage and retrieved a Lobo knife and a silver carving knife.
The boy’s mother contacted the police who confronted him in Inverewe Place and told him to drop the weapons, which he did.
He became “agitated” and handcuffs were applied, during which the boy tried to headbutt and spit on a police officer.
A spit hood was put on the teenager and he was put in the back of a police van.
Defence solicitor Chris Sneddon said his client lived with his parents and the imposition of a curfew had made a “significant” difference to his behaviour of late.
Sheriff Gilchrist called for the preparation of background reports – given the boy’s age and lack of previous convictions – and continued bail ahead of sentencing on November 24.
