A 16-year-old boy stole a car, ignored orders to stop then drove “erratically” through residential streets on the wrong side of the road before ploughing into a parked car.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, wasn’t even old enough to hold a provisional driving licence when he took the Ford Galaxy car from Victoria Park, Kings Drive, Arbroath, on September 30 last year.
He made his way to Dundee before ignoring uniformed PCs Paul Haigh, Jamie Hays and Rory Fairbairn who ordered him to stop in the city’s Douglas Road.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard that on Douglas Road, Longtown Road, Fintry Road, Fintry Drive and Fountainbleau Drive the boy “drove dangerously and in an erratic manner”.
Prosecutors say he repeatedly hit the kerb, mounted the central reservation and drove in the wrong direction on the opposing carriageway.
He then went round a roundabout the wrong way before smashing into a parked car in Fountainbleau Drive.
The boy, now aged 17, of Aberdeen, pleaded guilty on summary complaint to charges of dangerous driving, theft, failing to stop when required to do so, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.
Sentence was deferred in the case until May 26 for social work background reports.
