A university consultant involved with a youth development trust was jailed for 30 months yesterday for the sexual abuse of two children.
Kieran Hosty, of New Brancepeth, Durham, who also worked with the probation service before retiring, was found guilty of child sex abuse by a jury at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Retired Hosty, 72, who worked for Durham University Law School, targeted the girls on a yearly basis when his family travelled to Fife on holiday. Sheriff Alastair Carmichael told him: “These women still carry the scarring from your sexual abuse. There is no alternative to a custodial sentence.”
The jury heard Hosty would abuse the girls when he and his wife came to the East Neuk.
The abuse carried on each year until one of the girls found the courage to tell her mum.
Hosty was also placed on the sex offenders register for life.
