A Fife man has admitted breaking another man’s jaw in two places with a single punch.
David Rennie, 27, whose address was given as Blair Drive in Dunfermline, pled guilty to punching his victim Alexander McLeman on the head to his severe injury at an address in Blair Drive on November 10 last year.
Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court heard how the pair had ended up back in the property in the early hours of the morning following a night out in the town.
At around 2am, Rennie told Mr McLeman he needed to “have a talk” with him and is said to have told him in the kitchen: “I’m due you a dig.”
Fiscal Ronnie Hay explained that Rennie then punched him with a clenched right fist.
“The complainer felt dazed and felt his jaw was out of place,” Mr Hay said.
“The accused then stated: ‘That’s us cool now’.”
Mr McLeman continued to suffer pain in his jaw and subsequently went to Dunfermline’s Queen Margaret Hospital where it was confirmed he had broken his jaw in two places.
Realising the severity of his injury, he then contacted police.
He later required surgery involving three metal plates and screws as part of treatment for his injury.
Defence solicitor Gordon Martin conceded that the court was likely to require background reports on his client and would therefore reserve his mitigation until those were available.
Sheriff Jamie Gilchrist QC called for a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty assessment, agreeing to continue bail on Rennie until his next appearance on December 3.
