A trucker has been banned from the roads after being caught doing 107mph at the wheel of a high-powered luxury car.
Clive Gillies was driving a BMW X5, bearing a personalised number plate, when he was caught driving almost 40mph above the limit.
His lawyer said Gillies’ speed was due to him accelerating from a slip road.
Depute fiscal Bill Kermode told Perth Sheriff Court: “The locus was the M90 Perth to Inverkeithing road between junctions 10 and 9.
“At 8.17pm a BMW X5 was recorded at 107mph by laser device.
“The accused was stopped, shown the (device) display.
“When cautioned and charged he made no reply.”
Solicitor Linda Clark, representing Gillies, said disqualification would cause him difficulty due to his profession as a self-employed haulier.
She said: “He was entering the motorway from a slip road and had accelerated past slow moving traffic in the inside lane and was caught in the outside lane.
“If My Lady was to impose the maximum number of penalty points it would take him to 11 points”
Drivers are automatically banned under the totting up procedure if they reach 12 points.
Gillies had previously admitted driving at 107mph on the M90 Perth to Inverkeithing road, near to junction 10 on February 23 this year.
Sheriff Fiona Tait said she took into account the high reading, as well as the fact that the 49-year-old had two previous speeding convictions.
She disqualified Gillies, of Station Road, Birnam, for seven months and fined him £500.
