Former Dundee FC footballer Philip Roberts has been cleared of a street attack on a woman.
Roberts – who was released by the Dark Blues at the start of last season – was alleged to have attacked a woman in the city’s Ward Road on March 15 last year.
Prosecutors claimed he seized the woman by her hair and pushed her against a wall to her injury.
But minutes before he was due to go on trial at Dundee Sheriff Court prosecutors decided to accept his not guilty plea to the allegation.
Roberts – who now plays for Irish side Sligo Rovers – was due in court last October for trial over the allegation.
But he didn’t turn up and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Roberts, 21, of Alloa Road, Ilford, Essex, denied a charge of assault to injury on summary complaint but pleaded guilty to failing to appear at an earlier trial date.
Roberts was fined £100 for the failure to appear in court.
