An Eastern European farm worker who caused a fatal crash the first time he got behind the wheel in Scotland has been spared jail.
Andrejs Trofimovs was an estimated one and a half metres from the centre of a country road in the wrong lane of the Perthshire road when the Audi he was driving collided with Allan Joiner’s Ford Fiesta.
Mr Joiner suffered massive, fatal head injuries in the collision on the C484 road between St Madoes and Errol.
Firefighters had to cut the roof of his vehicle to remove his body and also had to free Latvian Trofimovs and his passenger, fellow countryman Vitalijs Andrulis from the wreckage.
Trofimovs (37) of Mains of Errol Farm, Errol, admitted causing Mr Joiner’s death by careless driving by driving into the opposing lane.
He also admitted driving while uninsured for the vehicle.
A judge ordered that Trofimovs should carry out 225 hours of unpaid work under a community payback order and banned him from driving for three years.
