A Dundee dog owner ended up in the dock after her pet labrador attacked a young boy and left him potentially scarred.
Agnieszka Morawiec lost control of the animal before it bit the child.
Morawiec, 31, of Dunholm Road, admitted being the owner of a dog which was dangerously out of control in the communal garden outside her home on July 14.
She admitted the labrador bit and injured the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, while it was unmuzzled.
Depute fiscal Christine Allan told Dundee Sheriff Court the child had been attacked after he approached the dog in the garden area.
She said the dog, called Jambo, got hold of the child’s arm and broke the skin, leaving him requiring paper stitches and with potential scarring.
Solicitor Douglas Thomson, defending, said: “This is a situation where the dog caused injuries, and therefore the court may order destruction unless one of the numerous exemptions are made out.
“The dog has previously displayed misbehaviour so we come to the second test, which is of the owner’s fitness.”
Mr Thomson said the Polish church community in Dundee had volunteered to hold a collection to pay to neuter Morawiec’s dog in a bid to save it from being put down.
He went on: “She was given advice to muzzle the dog in the past, but is now in a position where the court could make it mandatory. She would consent to that.”
Sheriff Alistair Carmichael placed a contingent destruction order on Jambo and said he would be put down if he has not been neutered by August 1.
