A construction worker claimed a Perth restaurant was “funding Islamic terrorism” in an online video rant.
David Soutar posted the hate-filled message on Facebook last October.
At Perth Sherriff Court he was told that he had escaped a jail sentence, instead being ordered to carry out unpaid work.
In the video, which was played in court, Soutar can be seen holding up a takeaway menu for Manzil, on Perth’s York Place.
He then states: “This is an advertisement for funding Islamic terrorism, believe you me.
“The Manzil restaurant in Perth and the Nawaab aren’t actually Indian – they pretend to be Indian but as I found out from my little Indian friend at the gym, they are actually Paki-f***ing-stani.
“This is what we do to the terrorists, to the people who are funding terrorists – we burn the…scumbags.”
The 47-year-old then used a lighter to set fire to the menu, before adding: “No more raising money for Manzil – remember this Perth. We mustn’t fund international Islamic terrorism anywhere.”
Soutar, of Darnhall Crescent, Perth, had previously admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by posting a video to social media that was of a racially offensive nature.
The offence took place on October 7 last year at Bannatyne’s gym on Perth’s Dunkeld Road.
Solicitor David Holmes, acting for Soutar, said he had tried to join the army but did not continue due to injury, and now works in construction.
He said Soutar had acted as carer to his mother, who has since died, and now looks after his brother.
Mr Holmes added: “He does not seek to justify or excuse his conduct.”
Sheriff David Griffiths told Soutar: “You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.”
He ordered Soutar to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and confiscated his tablet computer.
