A man who allegedly straddled his partner on a bed and choked her to the danger of her life has been remanded in custody ahead of trial.
Hugh Reid, a prisoner at HMP Perth, appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court charged with three offences, ranging from assault, to threatening behaviour and drug possession.
The 46-year-old is alleged to have assaulted the woman at an address on Helmsdale Avenue on November 24 last year.

Prosecutors accused him of straddling her on a bed, placing both hands around her neck and restricting her breathing to the danger of her life in a domestically aggravated assault.
In addition, Reid is alleged to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner on the same date at the same address.
He is said to have shouted, sworn, uttered threats of violence and threatened to shoot and stab his partner.
Reid faces a third charge of possessing the Class C drug diazepam, and is alleged to have committed all of the above offences whilst on bail orders granted on June 28, July 19 and August 19 last year.
At a hearing at Dundee Sheriff Court earlier this week solicitor Kris Gilmartin, for Reid, sought to have him bailed ahead of his trial later this year, which was opposed by prosecutors.
Mr Gilmartin said: “Mr Reid’s personal circumstances are unremarkable – he has health issues but nothing that would swing the balance (to or away from bail).
“He has indicated to me that he understands and would be willing to comply with bail conditions.”
Sheriff Lorna Drummond opted to remand Reid in custody because of the multiple bail orders he was on at the time he allegedly committed the offences.

She told the accused: “I have taken into account what Mr Gilmartin has said and the bail orders you were on at the time of the offences.
“You were on bail orders at the time – appreciating the fact that it’s now a prolonged period before this calls to trial, it’s my view you should be remanded.
“For all those reasons, bail is refused.”
Sheriff Drummond fixed a new trial date of July 28, with a further first diet on June 16.
