Abdul Ali, 59, of Hill Street, had his case continued for further inquiries.
He is charged on petition with failing to notify police that he was leaving the UK and travelling to France, as he is required to do under the sex offenders register, on April 6 last year.
He is also accused of failing to notify police of a financial account and debit card, as he is also required to do under the sex offenders register, on April 12 last year.
Ali was given bail.
