A man has admitted punching another male who was walking in the city centre with his girlfriend.
Bradley Simpson, 20, of Arthurstone Terrace, appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court where he admitted charges of assault and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The court heard Stefan Schnell and his girlfriend were walking along Nethergate towards City Square on March 14 when they met the accused.
Depute fiscal Joanne Smith told the court that words were exchanged as they passed each other in the street.
She said Simpson then ran towards the couple and punched Mr Schnell on the face and body.
“The complainer’s girlfriend tried to intervene and the accused ran off,” she said.
Police were contacted and Simpson was traced at a later date.
He gave officers false information about his identity in an effort to avoid arrest, the court was told.
Simpson admitted that he assaulted Mr Schnell and punched him on the head and body at Nethergate on March 14, while on bail.
He also admitted that he gave false details to police officers in an attempt to pervert the course of justice at the Overgate Shopping Centre on April 9.
Sheriff Christopher Shead deferred Simpson’s sentence until May 31 for reports.
