An NHS worker who had more than 8,000 child porn images and 10 hours of child porn videos has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for three years.
Scott Wallace, 33, of Symers Street, was also placed on a four-month curfew and under three years’ supervision at Dundee Sheriff Court.
The court heard that, at the time of the offence, Wallace was working as an assistant technical officers with NHS Tayside, delivering medication to wards including those treating children.
Fiscal depute Vicki Bell told the court the images and videos were seized during a search of Wallace’s home.
She said almost a million pornographic images were found, most of it adult, but that more than 8,000 were indecent images of children and more than 63,000 were “concerning” images of children but not illegal.
She said one image depicted a newborn baby and another an infant. More than 10 hours of video footage of children aged two months to 14 years was also found.
The fiscal said: “On a hard drive there were 5,861 indecent images of children and 2,720 on another computer. That was from a total of 370,000 mostly adult pornographic images on the hard drive and 574,000 on the computer.”
Solicitor Nicola Brown previously told the court Wallace had lost his job as a result of the offence.
Wallace admitted that between December 6 2009, and July 27 last year, at his home address, he took, or permitted to be taken, or made indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of children.
Sheriff George Way previously made comments regarding the “disturbing” aspect of the offence given the nature of Wallace’s employment.
He said although Wallace was no longer employed at NHS Tayside, until he was satisfied he was not a danger and could be robustly dealt with in the community, he was not going to allow bail.
Today, addressing Wallace, he said: “Be very, very clear if there was any question of sharing or distribution of this material, then prison would have been the only possible punishment.
“You are very fortunate that the most severe images are relatively small in number.”
Wallace is required to stay within his home address between the hours of 7pm and 7am daily for four months.
