A couple say they are “terrified” to live in their own home after a man wielded a knife and threatened to kill them in a row over pop music.
Kaspars Austrups, 28, and Evija Austrups, 24, say that the incident has forced them to consider finding a new home and moving their daughter Keita, four, to another nursery.
Evija said: “I’ve been struggling with nightmares since it happened, worrying that something might happen to my daughter. I’m scared to live here.”
The incident began when Kaspars, of Balunie Drive, asked Dylan Lynch, 32 — who lived in the flat directly below him — to turn down music.
Lynch responded by throwing a glass cider bottle at Mr Austrups. His friend Daniel Perrie, 28, of Lower Pleasance, then appeared at the door with a large kitchen knife and threatened to kill Mr Austrups, who ran upstairs.
Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson said there had been an ongoing dispute between Lynch and Mr Austrups.
The fiscal said: “At 11pm on October 4 last year the complainer could hear music, singing and screaming coming from the accused’s flat. He went down to complain as he was planning on going to bed.
“The accused’s girlfriend opened the door and a scuffle broke out between her and the complainer, with both throwing punches. Both accused approached and Lynch threw a glass cider bottle at the complainer. He moved away and it smashed on the wall behind him.
“Lynch then punched the complainer, connecting with his face. Perrie grabbed a knife from the kitchen and appeared behind Lynch, holding it up with the point towards the complainer, and shouted.”
Mr Austrups ran up to his own flat. He then heard a loud thud on his door and heard Perrie shout ‘I’ll kill you.’
The fiscal said: “Police were called and when they arrived they saw a glass bottle smashed on the ground at Lynch’s front door and a stab mark on the complainer’s front door.”
Lynch admitted assaulting Mr Austrups on October 4 last year. Perrie admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Sentence was deferred until July 15.
