A Perth prisoner who attacked two guards and used a chair as a weapon has had 10 months added to his sentence.
Inmate Norman Gunn admitted assaulting prison officers in his Perth Prison cell during an early morning outburst on February 10, last year.
The 36-year-old appeared from custody at Perth Sheriff Court.
Earlier this year, Gunn had 16 months added to his sentence after a racist rage at Lidl in Montrose.
He made bomb threats at the Brechin Road supermarket and a pair of police officers who attended later needed Hepatitis C tests after Gunn began biting.
In 2019, Gunn appeared in the dock in bloodstained clothing after breaching nine bail orders to visit an ex-partner.
That night, he attempted to bite a police officer’s ear off.
Latest offence described to court
Fiscal depute Andrew Harding said: “At around 7.40am, the prison officers – two of them – attended at the accused’s cell due to the sound of a disturbance coming from within.
“The cell door was opened.
“The accused was asked to calm down. He refused to do so.
“At that point, the accused kicked a chair in the direction of one.
“The chair struck him on his leg.”
The guard attempted to close the prison cell’s door but he was unable to do so.
Assaults
Gunn began “throwing punches” and managed to strike him on his face, below his left eye.
He also punched the other prison officer on the forearm.
The court heard Gunn was eventually restrained on the ground.
His defence solicitor Paul Ralph explained Gunn had been getting wound up by a fellow prisoner.
He added his client had been punished internally by means of a period of solitary confinement.
He said: “He is apologetic.”
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis added a total of ten months onto Gunn’s custodial sentence, to be served consecutive to his current period of imprisonment.
