A drunken “bogey man” was jailed after threatening to “batter” a woman and her six-year-old son because he was not allowed to ride the boy’s scooter.
Ziggi Christie’s booze-fuelled jokes fell flat as the mother and child waited at the Gowrie bus stop on Charleston Drive, Dundee, on August 27.
Christie, a man with a litany of previous convictions, also admitted breaching bail conditions by entering a Farmfoods store and approaching an employee.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard how Christie drunkenly entered the bus stop at around 6.30pm on August 27.
“The accused made comments to the complainer, saying he was the bogey man,” prosecutor Carrie-Anne Mackenzie said.
“He continued to make comments and asked the complainer’s son if he could have a shot of his scooter.
“The accused stated he would batter them if he didn’t get a shot.
“He continued his comments that he could batter them and the complainer and her son left the bus stop.”
Christie, of Elders Court, then stood close to the woman and her son with another witness, believing that something was wrong.
The bus turned up and the mother and son got on the bus.
CCTV footage was obtained and Christie was later traced by police.
The 41-year-old pled guilty to approaching the pair and acting aggressively, making threats of violence and shouting.
He also admitted approaching and contacting Alan Manzies at Farmfoods, Flight’s Lane, between September 9 and 29, which was a breach of his bail conditions.
Solicitor Doug McConnell said: “He apologises to the mother and son.
“He had taken alcohol and was trying to be funny.
“It was a joke at the wrong time and the wrong place.
“He takes alcohol in significant amounts and that leads him into trouble.
“He realises custody is a realistic option today.”
Sheriff John Rafferty jailed Christie for 126 days, saying: “At least you are taking a realistic approach to the disposal.
“Whether you intended it to be humorous or engaging in conversation, it went well beyond that.
“It must have been frightening for a mother with a young six-year-old child.”
