A shielding family, including a child and a frail pensioner, was subjected to a crazed attack by a man who stole his ex-partner’s dog.
George Scott burst into the terrified family’s home in the Ardler area of Dundee in January.
One of those he terrified was a bed-bound man, the city’s sheriff court was told.
An 11-year-old girl and an 82-year-old woman were violently pushed by Scott after he screamed: “I want my dog, get my dog.”
Scott was jailed after he admitted assaulting five different people.
Argument over dog ownership
The court was told how Scott had been embroiled in a dispute with his ex-partner over access to a Staffordshire bull terrier called Casper.
Scott “flew into a rage” during a phone call with the woman when she said Casper would not be returned to him.
The thug later burst into the family’s home, before attacking the pensioner and her daughter.
Fiscal depute Stewart Duncan said: “The 82-year-old woman saw the front door swing open wildly, with the accused stood there.
“He entered without permission and charged straight towards the witnesses.
“The woman and her daughter made attempts to prevent him from entering and implored the accused to leave.
“He completely disregarded them and pushed the younger woman to the chest with both hands, causing her to strike her head against a door.”
Pensioner and child assaulted
Scott, 33, then pushed the pensioner, causing her to stumble into a wall before making his way through the property.
The child was shoved by Scott and she stumbled onto a chair.
He then put his face close to his ex-partner and pushed her, before grabbing Casper by the neck.
Scott finally punched a man who had been helping deliver shopping to the family.
Mr Duncan said: “Another witness was leaving the bathroom and saw the accused.
“He said ‘you can’t come into someone’s house without knocking and take their dog’.
“The accused then put the dog down and punched him once.
“He did not suffer any injury.”
Police were contacted and they traced Scott a short time later.
Following his arrest, he told officers: “Who the f*** do you serve?
“I am a political prisoner. F*** off, no comment. C****.”
Dog was ‘bone of contention’
Scott, now a prisoner of HMP Perth, pled guilty to punching the man on the head and pushing the 82-year-old woman and her daughter.
He also admitted pushing the child on the body, pushing his former partner, struggling with her and robbing her of the dog on January 9.
Solicitor Gary McIlravey said previous offender Scott was fully expecting to receive a prison sentence.
He said: “The bone of contention was that both parties took claim to the dog.
“There was an informal agreement of contact with the dog but that caused problems.”
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael sentenced Scott to 16 months in prison.
