A Perth paedophile who once claimed being fat made him look at child abuse images has been handed more jail time after being caught with a secret burner phone.
Perth Prison inmate Gordon Simpson was found by jurors to have possessed a mobile capable of accessing the internet just nine days after being banned from having devices which were not fitted with police monitoring software.
On January 12, Simpson was made subject to a restriction of the Police Offender Management Unit to ensure any internet-accessing devices he used had police monitoring software installed.
On January 21, he was found to have a mobile phone at a property in Perth’s Skinnergate, which did not have the software.
Sheriff William Wood handed Simpson, 32, a two-year prison sentence at Perth Sheriff Court.
In 2018, Simpson was jailed for possessing a laptop which was also without police software, which was previously made mandatory for him.
At that time, 25-stone Simpson claimed being so overweight had led to him developing an interest in child abuse images.
He had just been jailed for almost three years for possessing vile images and claimed he had gained two stone while behind bars.
Simpson, from Alyth, has also previously received a custodial sentence for ignoring an internet ban placed on him.
In 2015, solicitor Mike Tavendale told Perth Sheriff Court: “Because of his size his self-image is very poor and as a result of that he has become very socially isolated within the home.
“He spends most of his time, when he is not caring for his grandfather, on the internet.”
