A “play fight” in a Dundee multi descended into chaos after a man was left bloodied at the hands of his pal.
Graeme McBrearty, 56, also struck Darren Binnie’s partner during the wild incident at Adamson Court, before gouging a police officer’s eye.
A court was told how McBrearty believed the initially light-hearted scuffle went too far when he was choked.
McBrearty was locked up after pleading guilty to the attacks at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Smashed window with fist
Prosecutor Marie Lyons revealed how McBrearty accused Mr Binnie of stealing money that had fallen out of his pocket during the play-fight in the ground-floor flat.
She said: “The accused was asked to leave, which he did, but returned and smashed a window using his fist.
“The witnesses tried to keep the accused out but he gained entry and punched Mr Binnie four to five times.
“He left again, however, he returned and punched Mr Binnie another three to four times.
“Mr Binnie’s girlfriend was punched on the face when she tried to intervene.”
The concierge of the multi was contacted and police attended shortly afterwards.
Gouged officer’s eye
Mr Binnie suffered a bloody nose but did not require any further treatment.
His partner, Kimberley Hutchison, did not sustain any injuries.
Police traced McBrearty and he was initially compliant with officers until being placed in a cell at the force’s headquarters.
Sergeant Daryll Planting suffered cuts and blurred vision after being gouged on the face and left eye by McBrearty.
Now a prisoner of HMP Perth, McBrearty pled guilty to three charges of assault between November 9 and 10 last year.
Shared cocaine before fight
Solicitor Gary McIlravey said: “He tells me the three of them shared cocaine.
“During the play-fight and rolling about, he was choked quite severely.
“He felt that went beyond the score.
“He accepts he should have just walked away.
“In regards to the incident with the police, he is at a complete loss to explain what he did and he apologises to the officer concerned.”
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael jailed McBrearty for 16 months.
