A Fife music teacher who sexually abused one of his pupils more than 20 years ago has been jailed.
Keith Deary taught groups of children at a public hall in north-east Fife.
But twice he targeted a young boy, then aged 14, after their lessons.
A sheriff jailed Deary for five-and-a-half months and placed him on the sex offenders register for seven years.
Fiscal depute John Adams told Dundee Sheriff Court the two assaults took place between June 1989 and June 1990 at the Boys Brigade Hall in St Andrews’ Langlands Road and at a nearby house.
During the first attack the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been using a cupboard as a changing room and had put a kilt over the trousers he was wearing.
Deary told the boy to take the trousers off while trying on the kilt – before Deary touched his private parts over the boy’s underwear.
Then in another incident Deary asked the boy to stay behind so he could give him a lift home.
As they were driving Deary said he needed to pop into his aunt’s house nearby.
Mr Adams said: “Once they got there the complainer sat in the living room and the accused sat beside the child and touched his leg and thigh over the complainer’s clothing.”
Deary then sexually assaulted the complainer by putting his hands into the boy’s underwear and attempting to carry out a sex act on him.
The boy didn’t tell anyone of the incidents until 2014 when a separate allegation was made against Deary.
Deary, 46, of Main Street, Guardbridge, Fife, pleaded guilty on summary complaint to two charges of sexual assault.
His not guilty pleas to three further offences were accepted by the Crown.
Sheriff Simon Collins QC jailed Deary for 163 days and placed him on the sex offenders register for seven years.
