A man who smashed a bottle over a festival-goer’s head was snared after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
Marius Bauba hit Robert Large during the T in the Park music festival at Strathallan Estate in Perthshire.
At Perth Sheriff Court fiscal depute Robbie Brown said: “This matter came to light because there was a posting on Facebook, which eventually ended up on the Police Scotland page, of the accused striking the complainer over the head with a bottle.
“The accused and complainer were identified.
“The complainer did not provide a statement to the police.
“(In the video) there are a number of tents and a man stumbling about intoxicated, which was the complainer.
“The accused came into view, appears to hold the complainer with one hand, bend down , grab a bottle and smashes it over his head.
“The video is seven second long.”
Solicitor Tony Currie, representing Bauba, said: “He became inebriated during the festival and was separated from his friends.
“He stumbled onto an altercation between others and became embroiled in this for reasons he can’t quite explain.
“He realises that it’s a very serious incident and he if fortunate that there were not more serious injuries.”
Bauba was left with scratches on his forehead as a result of the incident but did not seek medical treatment.
Bauba, of Fenwickland Avenue, Ayr, admitted that between July 9 and 11 at T in the Park music festival, Strathallan Castle, he assaulted Mr Large by striking him on the head with a bottle to his injury.
Jailing Bauba for 13 months, Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said: “This is a serious matter. The video footage is eloquent as to what occurred.
“I consider that custody is the appropriate disposal.”
