A drunken thug who kicked a father and son unconscious in the street outside a Dundee pub is facing jail.
John Garty left victims Andrew Ramsay, 37, and Arthur Ramsay, 60, for dead in the city’s Cowgate.
The 29-year-old rained blows on the heads and bodies of his defenceless victims during the attack.
Arthur Ramsay required to have his eye socket rebuilt in an operation that saw a metal plate inserted in his face.
The terrifying attack only ended when Garty was chased-off by a passing motorist, who leaped from his car to intervene.
He is now facing jail.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard that unemployed Garty launched the unprovoked attack after an evening drinking in The Town House bar.
While his two victims waited outside for a taxi, he ran out of the bar, accusing Andrew Ramsay of “bad mouthing” him.
He punched Mr Ramsay on the head, causing him to fall over backwards and strike his head on the ground.
He was rendered unconscious.
Witnesses then saw Garty kick Mr Ramsay as he lay in the street.
His father attempted to intervene but as he bent over his son to shield him from the blows he was kicked in the face.
He too slumped to the ground unconscious.
Arthur Ramsay was said to have been “completely defenceless” as Garty continued to kick and punch him, while Andrew Ramsay was “totally unresponsive”.
Neither had any recollection of the ferocity of the attack they had faced.
The attack was partially witnessed by a passing motorist who rushed from his car to help the two men.
Garty was pulled away and then made off.
The court was told that Andrew Ramsay had sustained a fractured jaw and a cut to the back of his head.
He also lost one of his front teeth.
Arthur Ramsay sustained even more serious injuries and underwent surgery to reinforce a fractured eye socket with a metal plate.
He was also left with permanent scarring and suffers from numbness in his face.
Garty, of Muirfield Place in Dundee, was traced a short time later by police officers.
He subsequently admitted assaulting Andrew Ramsay to his severe injury on November 22 last year by kicking him on the head.
Garty also pleaded guilty to assaulting Arthur Ramsay to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment by repeatedly kicking and punching him on the body.
Sentence has been deferred for reports.
