A cocaine-fuelled driver fell asleep while driving on Dundee’s busy Marketgait.
Police discovered Scott Dyer to have an illegal level of cocaine in his system after a concerned member of the public reported his stationary car.
Dyer pled guilty to driving while under the influence of cocaine when he appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Fiscal Depute Carol Doherty said: “On Monday morning around 6.35 am, May 31, 2021, a witness was driving on a motorcycle behind the vehicle, on approach towards Ladyhill roundabout.
“The accused admitted to falling asleep, the vehicle came to a stop.
“Police were contacted and again, the accused admitted to falling asleep.”
Took cocaine two days before
Police conducted a roadside test before conveying Dyer to the nearby police headquarters at West Bell Street to take a blood sample.
Dyer, of Whitburn Place, Dundee, was found to have 110 micrograms of cocaine in his system.
The legal limit is 50mics per litre of blood of Benzoylecgonine, the metabolite of cocaine, to take account of low levels which could be present from the likes of legal medication.
The 21-year-old engineering apprentice had taken the drug the Saturday night before, believing it would be clear from his system by Monday morning.
“He now recognises the folly,” said defending solicitor David Duncan.
Sheriff John Rafferty imposed a fine of £567 and a 12-month ban from driving.
