A convicted killer has admitted mercilessly attacking a woman in a Fife park.
Michael Williamson admitted leaving Julianna Cuthill injured after a ruthless attack at Kinloss Park in Cupar.
The court was shown mobile phone footage recorded by a neighbour, who heard the woman’s screams and she was punched and stamped on.
Williamson, a HMP Perth inmate, admitted acting with another to assault Ms Cuthill on June 16.
He pled guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court to repeatedly punching her head and tripping her, causing her to fall to the ground.
The 42-year-old stamped on Ms Cuthill’s head and body, as well as kicking her.
The brutal attack left her with a swollen and bruised left eye and hand and a one inch cut to her cheek.
Initially denied attack
The court heard Williamson, Ms Cuthill and another person had been drinking throughout the day and had returned to Williamson’s home.
It was near the basketball courts at the public park on the residential street, however, that Williamson unleashed his attack.
Police were called by the neighbour who filmed the incident and viewed his footage.
When they traced Williamson, he told officers: “I never committed any assault, my girlfriend was getting battered by another woman.”
His solicitor Calum Gordon said: “Mr Williamson understands the severity of this.”
Williamson has been on remand since the middle of June and Sheriff Paul Brown remanded him again for reports.
He is due back in court on January 19 to be sentenced.
Killed girlfriend
Williamson, who already had convictions for assault and robbery, killed his girlfriend 20 years ago.
In 2001, aged 22, he was jailed for seven years after stabbing to death his then-partner Sarah Jane Morgan during a row at an address in Kirkcaldy’s Farne Court.
The Crown accepted a plea to the reduced charge of culpable homicide.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard Miss Morgan had tried to hit Williamson with a machete because he had been talking about a former girlfriend in his sleep.
Williamson stabbed her in the heart with a knife during the ensuing struggle and she died in hospital.
He was jailed for nine months in 2019 for having a knife without reasonable excuse in a public place.
He produced the “ornamental” blade in a taxi and offered it to the driver for £100.
