Bin lorry driver on trial over death of 80-year-old motorised wheelchair user

A bin lorry driver has gone on trial accused of causing the death of an 80 year old wheelchair user by dangerous driving in Perthshire.
Scott Hamilton, 44, is said to have caused his lorry to collide with Peter Wills’ motorised wheelchair in the incident on December 3 2014 on Sheriffmuir Road, Dunblane.
It is alleged he reversed without taking “adequate steps” to ensure it was safe and the road behind him was clear and without using and being guided by a trained banksman provided for the purpose.
Prosecutors say Mr Wills was so severely injured that he died.
Hamilton, of Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire, is represented by solicitor-advocate George Pollock.
He denies causing death by dangerous driving.
The trial, before Lord Ericht at the High Court in Stirling, is expected to last several days.
