An imam is to stand trial accused of attacking a young boy during an Arabic lesson at a mosque. Hafiz Rizvi, a cleric at the Taj Der E Madina Mosque in Dundee’s Victoria Road, was arrested over the alleged assault in August. He is accused of repeatedly slapping a seven-year-old boy on the head at the mosque on August 22. Dundee Sheriff Court was told an incident occurred during an Arabic lesson Rizvi was holding at the establishment. Defence solicitor Scott Norrie said: “He is an imam and teaches a variety of children’s groups at the mosque. “There have been no difficulties since this matter.” Rizvi, 38, of Wolsely Street, Dundee, denied a charge on summary complaint of assault. Sheriff Simon Collins QC set a trial date in January and ordered Rizvi to attend a pre-trial hearing in December.
