A former Dundee teacher was remanded in custody accused of pretending to prison bosses that he was a solicitor so a letter he had written to an inmate containing “graphic discussion of sexual abuse of children” wouldn’t be seen by guards.
Robert Lightband faced two charges on petition at Dundee Sheriff Court.
The first alleges that between March 23 2016 and October 11 2016 he breached a sexual offences prevention order by repeatedly deleting content from his home computer without permission contrary to the terms of the order.
A second fraud charge claims that on September 29 at HMP Perth Lightband pretended he was a qualified solicitor writing a letter to a client who was an inmate, namely Jason Jordan.
It is claimed he did that so the letter, said to contain “graphic discussion of sexual abuse of children”, would not be intercepted.
Lightband, 70, of Clepington Court, made no plea or declaration at Dundee Sheriff Court.
His solicitor, John Boyle, made no motion for bail and Lightband’s case was fully committed for trial.
Sheriff Simon Collins QC remanded him in custody ahead of further court dates being set.
