A married couple appeared at Perth Sheriff Court on Tuesday, accused of setting up a spread-betting scheme whereby they allegedly embezzled nearly £350,000 from 14 people.
Wendy Plimley, 61, and husband Peter, 67, both of Newtonmore, deny that on various occasions between December 1, 2011, and December 1, 2013, in Church Road, Kinfauns, they organised an account with IG Index Ltd and set up a spread-betting scheme by engaging in contractual agreements with 14 people, where they accepted various sums of money from them with the promise of gaining returns speculating in this scheme.
Thereafter these people entrusted their money to the pair who pretended that all the money was lost in a single transaction, knowing this to be false, and embezzled a total of £345,359 in cash.
Both accused will stand trial on January 30 next year.
