And so the week begins…
Hospital threat
Methil man Brian Liddy could be jailed after calling his partner a “sp*nk bucket” and threatening to cut her throat at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital.
At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Liddy, 43, admitted acting in a threatening manner towards his then-partner on July 2 last year.
The court heard the woman had taken Liddy’s car to the hospital to drop off a friend but he found her smoking outside the hospital entrance and a pair of security guards heard him threaten her.
Police were alerted and Liddy, of Hazel Dene, later handed himself in.
His solicitor David McLaughlin said the woman had taken the car without his permission.
He explained the relationship was now over.
Sheriff James Williamson said: “This is at a hospital.
“Not only is he content to berate his partner, he does it to the inconvenience of patients and staff at the Victoria.”
The sheriff deferred sentence until April 11 for reports.
He told Liddy: “There’s a distinct possibility you could go into custody.”
Death driver admonished
A German tourist who caused the death of Dundee biker Steve Lewis in 2019 has been admonished. Dundee Sheriff Court heard Ulf Koischwitz had completed a 200-hour unpaid work order in his homeland in just one year after pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving in Highland Perthshire.
Prolific shoplifter
A serial shoplifter made off with £850 worth of goods from stores around Perth in less than a month.
Jake Alexander helped himself to cigarettes, aftershave and alcohol from Superdrug, Morrisons and Tesco.
The spree began with the theft of £180 worth of tobacco products from Shop Local in Letham, on June 16, 2021.
Perth Sheriff Court heard none of the stolen items were recovered.
Alexander, of Rannoch Road, Perth, admitted seven charges of theft.
A solicitor for the 29-year-old said: “Mr Alexander is engaging to address his addiction issues.”
She said he moved from Fife to Perth last year to “disassociate himself from negative peers,” but turned to shoplifting when his prescription medication was temporarily halted.
Alexander was ordered to carry out 110 hours of unpaid work and placed on supervision for a year.
Kitchen hell
Glenrothes man David Brown has been ordered to pay £3000 compensation to the chef he left with a permanent scar after hitting him in his hotel kitchen. Brown had a previous dispute with the cook and hit him with a heat lamp in the Drummonds Hotel in Markinch.
Police struggle
A Rosyth man struggled with police so violently he hurled one officer’s vest across the room.
Nicholas Madden, 45, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court to admit three charges.
The 45-year-old admitted acting threateningly when coming home drunk from a pub on July 10, frightening his partner.
He blocked her from leaving a room and punched a wall.
When police arrived in Whinneyburn Place, he attacked one officer and placed him in a headlock, before repeatedly seizing him by the clothing.
They used Pava Spray but it was ineffective.
He pinned a door shut to keep officers from arresting him and when grappling with one, removed the officer’s hi-viz vest.
Eventually leg restraints and double handcuffs were applied.
Madden admitted resisting arrest and struggling violently with four officers, holding a door shut on them.
He told the court: “It was my first drink in two years. I don’t know what came over me.
“I’ve not had anything to drink since. It’s totally shameful.”
Sheriff William Gilchrist ordered him to complete 120 hours of unpaid work.
Prison thug
A thug who left a Perth Prison officer unconscious and also battered a friend in the street has been jailed for four years. Steven Ross‘ crimes were outlined in Dundee Sheriff Court.
Hostile to hostel
A man has admitted threatening staff at a Perth homeless hostel in a series of social media messages.
Taimoor Khan appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and pled guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
The court heard that between December 9 and 15, 2019, Khan, of Carnegael, Almondbank, posted messages online that contained threats of violence and offensive comments which were directed at employees of Greyfriars Hostel, Perth.
The 25-year-old’s remarks placed staff in a state of fear and alarm.
Sheriff Francis Gill deferred sentence for background reports until April 13.
