Jail for ‘remorseless’ Broughty Ferry lorry driver who poked domestic abuse victim in eye with banana

Broughty Ferry lorry driver Craig MIlne, Dundee Sheriff Court
Craig Milne has been jailed at Dundee Sheriff Court.

A serial domestic abuser who tormented four women over a 13-year period has been jailed.

“Remorseless” Craig Milne was sent to prison after being found guilty after trial earlier this year.

Shameless lorry driver Milne had tried to claim there had been a “conspiracy” against him.

However, Sheriff Gregor Murray said the evidence he had heard from Milne’s victims was some of the “most compelling” he had listened to in his time as a judge.

The brute subjected all four of his victims to verbal and physical abuse — poking, punching, slapping, threatening and degrading them.

He choked one woman, threw a hammer at another and smacked another in the eye with a banana.

‘No possibility of rehabilitation’

Social workers were asked to compile a report on the 44-year-old before Sheriff Murray sentenced him at Dundee Sheriff Court.

They found him unsuitable for supervision or a domestic abuse rehabilitation programme.

In mitigation for Milne, defence solicitor John Boyle said the prospect of being sent to jail had caused his client “great anxiety”.

Craig Milne
Craig Milne carried out his domestic abuse campaign for 13 years.

He said: “He has a work ethic. He does have a record.

“Given he is unsuitable for supervision or the programme requirement, he is suitable for unpaid work and a restriction of liberty order.”

But Sheriff Murray remained unconvinced, sending Milne, of Manor Place, Broughty Ferry, to prison for eight months.

“The charges you were convicted of were a sustained course of abuse against four women,” he said.

“I have to take into account the number of women involved and the period of abuse.

“I accept you are employed and have a work ethic.

“I accept if you are sent to prison your children will suffer.

“There is no possibility of rehabilitation, given your lack of remorse.

“You deserve a custodial sentence for these offences.”

Lengthy list of crimes

Milne was found guilty of seven charges of domestic abuse against four women.

Between September 1, 2007 and February 28 at Dalhousie Gardens, he grabbed the first by the throat and punched her on the body.

Between March 1, 2008 and November 30, 2010 at an address in Duntrune, he assaulted the same woman by grabbing her by the throat, strangling her, pulling her hair, and punching and kicking her on the head and body.

Between January 1, 2013 and May 1, 2015 in Silver Link Avenue, he acted in a threatening and abusive manner and threw a hammer at a second woman.

Between January 2016 and March 31, 2019 at Fettercairn Drive, he assaulted a third by pushing her on the chest, punching her, slapping her on the body, kicking her on the legs, spitting in her face and pulling her hair.

During the same time period at the same address he repeatedly shouted and swore at her.

Between April 2019 and December 31, 2020 at Fettercairn Drive, he shout and swore at her, poked her on the chest, punched her and slapped her on the body, kicked her on the legs and pulled her hair.

Between June 2020 and October 2020 at Manor Place and Aberdour Place, he slapped a cigarette out of his fourth victim’s mouth, shouted at her, made derogatory remarks, pushed her, struck her on the eye with a banana, struck her with a mobile phone and poured a can of beer on her head.
