Police raiding a Dundee man’s home for child abuse images uncovered hundreds of cannabis-laced sweets as well.
Allan ONeill’s former home in Dundee was searched by police officers with “confidential information” on October 14 2020.
They entered the 22-year-old’s family home and gathered him, his mother and his step-father in the living room to explain why they were there.
He immediately confessed to police about having illegal photographs.
Unemployed ONeill, now of Ancrum Court, told police: “I was searching on websites and chat rooms.
“There were these images someone sent me.”
Officers found an iPhone 6 in his bedroom, which they analysed.
In the device’s camera roll, they found two indecent photographs of girls, which were rated as Category C and found to be still accessible.
The girls were identified as being between the ages of 10 and 13, were naked and were in sexual poses.
Cannabis-laced sweets
While officers were inspecting ONeill’s bedroom, they uncovered bags of sweets, which appeared to have packaging similar to recognised brands.
However, upon further examination, the sweets were found to be cannabis-infused bootleg replicas.
Police quickly obtained and executed a drug search warrant.
Officers found 130 packets of Stoney Patch sweets, made to look like Maynards Sour Patch Kids, each with 10 sweets inside.
Police also found three packets of “Medibles,” also with 10 sweets per pack and some strawberry melts with just over 27 grammes of THC – the main psychoactive compound of marijuana – present.
A further 40 grammes of cannabis and 17.2 grammes of THC were found, along with traces of each in grinders.
‘Disgusted’ by images
In a police interview, ONeill told officers he was attracted to women, not children and said he was “disgusted.”
He said he didn’t know what the file he had been sent was but downloaded it anyway and could not explain why he had not deleted it.
ONeill said it had been sent to him “a few weeks ago” and court papers stated he had had the files since September 27 that year.
Fiscal depute Matthew Kerr said: “He stated he has an addiction to cannabis.”
At Perth Sheriff Court, first offender ONeill admitted possessing the two indecent images and the cannabis.
The phone on which the images were found has been seized by the Crown Office.
Sheriff Paul Brown deferred sentencing until May 9 and ordered background reports to be prepared.
