Police searching for a missing Montrose woman visited the home of her alleged killer while her body lay in his bathtub, a court has heard.
Barbara Whyte told a murder trial that her former partner Steven Jackson made an astonishing confession during a “terrifying” ordeal at a Blairgowrie guesthouse.
She said Jackson had a machete hidden in his trousers when he met her for a drink at the town’s Wetherspoons bar.
And later that night, he told Miss Whyte how mother-of-three Kimberley MacKenzie died at his ground-floor flat in Market Street, Montrose, just days earlier.
According to Miss Whyte, Jackson said that Miss MacKenzie was struck on the back of the head with a hammer. He then took her to the bathroom where he slit her throat and watched as she “bled like a pig”.
Jackson and Higgins, who are on trial at Glasgow High Court, both deny murdering and dismembering Miss MacKenzie.
