A 24-year-old man who struck a baby on the head and pushed his thumb on the child’s head to its injury has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.
Lewis Stevenson, of Moredunvale Loan in Edinburgh, previously pled guilty to the assault charge when he appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He appeared again for sentencing on Wednesday.
Procurator fiscal depute Zahra Bhatti told the court a medical report found “significant bruising” to the child’s face, which was “consistent with fingertip pressure.”
The depute fiscal also made reference to a telephone conversation concerning the child being “slapped” on the head by Stevenson.
Court papers state the incident happened at a property in Rosyth in June last year.
Sheriff David Hall told Stevenson: “This is a serious matter for you to assault (the child) in the manner you did.”
The sheriff sentenced him to a community payback order with a requirement to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months.
Stevenson must also work with a supervising officer and participate in any courses they want him to do.
The court heard Stevenson had no previous convictions.
