A Perth man has appeared in court accused of hitting a woman and a police officer with a car.
Kevin Davies faces a charge of dangerous driving near his home in Glengarry Road on Saturday.
The 46-year-old appeared from custody before Sheriff Gillian Wade.
It is alleged Davies drove a car dangerously and in an aggressive manner.
He is accused of excessively revving the engine and colliding with a woman.
It is further alleged he then drove away at excessive speed, turned the car around and drove in the direction of Police Constable Mark Peebles so he collided with him.
Davies is also accused of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm, by shouting, swearing and punching the interior of a car.
He faces a third charge that he behaved threateningly or abusively at his home on June 3 2021, by shouting, swearing, uttering offensive comments and threats of violence.
Davies denies all charges.
He was released on bail with a trial set for October 5, and an intermediate hearing on September 8.
High risk offender
A high risk sex offender approached two girls in a Dundee park and carried out a sex act. Stephen Bell was on bail at the time of his latest offending, which included further crimes in Aberdeen and elsewhere.
Marine banned
A Royal Marine has been banned from the road after he was caught driving while uninsured and after having “a few drinks” in Arbroath.
Mark Smith gave in to “temptation” after a night out with friends and decided to take his car home.
The 27-year-old, based at RM Condor, volunteered to police he had been drinking when they stopped his Seat Ibiza at the Guthrie Roundabout.
He complied with a roadside breath test, which suggested he was more than five times the limit.
Smith refused a second breath test when he was taken to Dundee police HQ.
He appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court and admitted driving without insurance and failing to provide two specimens of breath on April 10.
Fiscal depute Jill Drummond said Smith’s driving drew the attention of police at around 2.40am when he nearly collided with a central reservation.
They followed and stopped him and he said: “I’ve had a few to drink.”
Ms Drummond said: “The accused provided a reading of 118 mics, however he failed to provide a second specimen.”
The legal limit is 22 mics.
A solicitor for Smith told the court: “He has been in the marines for two years and is held in high esteem.
“He left the nightclub that night and the temptation was there.
“He made the misguided decision to get behind the wheel.”
The court heard that his car insurance lapsed while he was working overseas.
The solicitor added: “He is at a loss to explain what happened to him at the police station.
“He has nothing but kind things to say about the police officers and offers his apologies to them through the court.”
Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown fined Smith £335 and disqualified him from driving for one year.
Nurse threats
Fife nurse Leeann Brown lost her job as an NHS nurse after texting one of her partner’s illegal drug customers with threats. The 39-year-old was sentenced to unpaid work. Her partner is due to be sentenced for similar crimes on Wednesday.
‘Abhorrent and ugly’
A domestic abuser left his former partner with a burst lip and threatened to “snap her neck” following an argument.
Dale Glanville appeared from custody at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court and pled guilty to repeatedly assaulting the woman and threatening her with violence to her injury.
The 32-year-old, of the town’s Valley Gardens South, also admitted breaching a non-harassment order.
The court heard the pair had been drinking together on April 2 when an argument started.
Fiscal depute Freya Anderson-Ward said: “The accused thereafter struck the complainer to the face multiple times, causing her lip to burst.
“He thereafter made several threats to the complainer, telling her he would snap her neck and punch her face.”
Police were contacted and found the distressed woman with injuries to her face.
Glanville’s defence lawyer said his client reacted as the woman had been slapping and pushing him as they argued but he accepts his actions were “abhorrent and very ugly.”
Sheriff Craig McSherry deferred sentence for background reports until May 24 and Glanville was remanded in custody.
The court heard that Glanville is already serving a four-month jail sentence.
‘Disablist’ comments trial
The trial has begun of Perth man Mark Clephane. He is accused of barricading himself inside his flat and making “disablist” comments to police as they tried to gain entry. The trial will continue next month.
