Monday court round-up — Snapchat, knuckleduster and cannabis sweets

A Leven man threatened to don a balaclava and “batter” his former partner’s new boyfriend.

Corrie Inglis had binged Valium and alcohol at a friend’s house before using Snapchat to make a number of threatening voice calls to his ex-girlfriend.

He threatened to “stab f**k” out of the man, saying he would visit him wearing the face covering and with a knuckleduster.

Appearing from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court, Inglis, of Oakvale Road, Leven, pled guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner on May 4 2022.

Defence solicitor Martin McGuire, in mitigation for Inglis, said: “He has no recollection of this incident whatsoever.

“He accepts he made two short video calls.

“There was no suggestion any weapon was shown.

“Such was his intoxication his friend called an ambulance and he was taken to hospital.

“His comments were made with the intent to hurt her.”

Sheriff Robert More imposed a nine-month non-harassment order and said: “I know it is difficult but you have got to accept she has moved on.”

He also sentenced Inglis to a community payback order with 60 hours unpaid work as “a direct alternative to imprisonment.”

Stalker

Kevin Findlater from Angus was denied his request for an absolute discharge after admitting stalking charges against his ex-partner. He also admitted dangerous driving for swerving in front of the woman’s car in an incident he claimed was nothing to do with her.

Sweet justice

A Dundee sex offender who was found with hundreds of drug-laced sweets when police raided his home looking for child abuse images has been ordered to complete unpaid work.

Allan ONeill previously admitted possessing hundreds of cannabis-infused sweets at his family home, along with a pair of C-Categorised child abuse images.

Officers raided his home in October 2020 and found more than 1,000 sweets in packaging designed to look like legitimate Sour Patch Kids confectionary.

Having appeared at Perth Sheriff Court last month to plead guilty, the 22-year-old, now of Ancrum Court, appeared before Sheriff Paul Brown at Dundee Sheriff Court to be sentenced.

The sheriff placed ONeill under supervision for 18 months and on the Sex Offenders Register for the same period.

In respect of the child abuse images, ONeill must complete 135 hours of unpaid work, and a further 45 were ordered as punishment for the drug possession charge.

Gambling with freedom

A gambling addict who stole £6000 from her own mother has not completed a court-imposed work order designed to keep her from prison. Lynne Cree, 51, from Dundee, has only paid back a third of the money she took when she wiped out her 82-year-old mother’s Post Office account savings. She was ordered to return to court with medical reports outlining her failure to comply.

Pole-waving would-be thief

A Fife man brandished a pole after being caught planning to raid a home.

On April 28, Andrew Turnbull, of Herriot Crescent in Methil, was found to be in the curtilage of a property in nearby Keir Hardie Wynd.

It was admitted at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court it could reasonably be inferred he was there to steal.

The 37-year-old also admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, brandishing a pole and making a violent threat.

Sheriff Craig McSherry deferred sentencing until May 24.

Remitted to high court

The High Court will sentence Fife brute Paul McMullan after a sheriff ruled he could pose a “substantial risk to public safety”. McMullan battered his former partner in her home in Dunfermline. She was found two days later, unconscious and with a black ligature around her neck.

M90 speeder

A driver has been fined for speeding on a busy Fife road undergoing roadworks and weaving in and out of lanes to prevent another vehicle from overtaking.

Muhsin Ali admitted driving carelessly on the M90, between Dunfermline and Queensferry, when he appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

Court papers also state the 33-year-old overtook other motor vehicles in a careless and inconsiderate manner at the time.

Sheriff Susan Duff fined Ali, of Edinburgh’s Craigour Drive, £400 and endorsed his licence with four penalty points.
