A farm worker who was caught doing 116mph in a Land Rover on the M90 has been allowed to keep his licence.
Bruce Keillor said he was “surprised” when police told him his speed.
The 24-year-old appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted driving carelessly along the 70mph stretch, near Gairneybridge, on June 4, last year.
Sheriff Craig McSherry remarked: “To do this in a Land Rover Discovery, he must have been going at about 6,500 or 7,000 revs a minute.”
Speed check
Fiscal depute Elizabeth Hodgson said police were stationed on an M90 flyover at around 8.50pm.
“They observed a white SUV, which appeared to be travelling well in excess of the speed limit.
“It was seen passing a slower moving vehicle.”
The prosecutor told the court officers pointed their speed gun at the Land Rover and recorded a reading of 116mph.
Police went after the vehicle and ordered it to stop.
When approached, Keillor made no comment.
Needs licence for work
Solicitor Steve Lafferty, defending, said: “This was a clear day, with good visibility.
“He was surprised when police showed him the speed they had recorded him travelling at.”
Mr Lafferty said Keillor was an experience driver, travelling about 10,000 miles a year.
“He does require his licence for his work,” said Mr Lafferty.
“If he loses his licence, he loses his employment.”
The court heard that Keillor, of Forfar, was “held in high regard” by his employers.
Sheriff McSherry told Keillor: “I take account that you are a first offender.
“I also take account of the distance you travelled at speed and that the traffic flow was light.”
Keillor was fined £750 and had six penalty points added to his licence.
