A Kirkcaldy man who stabbed a neighbour in a dispute about music has escaped a jail sentence.
However Marc Wilson was warned he could be thrown behind bars if he fails to complete an unpaid work order.
Wilson had previously admitted repeatedly striking Grzegorz Szymikowski on the body with a knife to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement, while under provocation, in the town’s Lansbury Street in the early hours of May 2 2020.
Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court heard Wilson came to Mr Szymikowski’s door and stabbed him in the arm as he tried to restrain him outside.
Wilson, of Dunsire Street, Kirkcaldy, will be under court supervision for 18 months and must carry out 270 hours of unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay £750 in compensation to Mr Szymikowski.
Abusive partner
Fife man Gary Paton demanded his ex-partner send him photographs to prove her location and turned up at her home with a baseball bat, during a course of abuse lasting five years. He was given unpaid work and put on a domestic offender scheme.
High-speed chase
A Dundee man has admitted leading police on a dangerous pursuit through Angus.
Darren Jamieson appeared from custody to admit driving dangerously while uninsured and without a licence.
He reached speeds of 96mph on the A92 as he passed Muirdrum, near Carnoustie, on July 14 last year.
Jamieson pled guilty to then driving the Vauxhall through Arbroath from the A92 Dundee Road onto the B964, Viewfield Road, Dalhousie Place, Keptie Road and the A933 Forfar Road, all while being pursued by a police car, flashing its blue lights.
He accelerated harshly, drove at excessive speed, repeatedly drove on the wrong side of the road and forced vehicles to take evasive action.
Jamieson, of Adamson Court, navigated a mini-roundabout the wrong way and failed to comply with a keep left bollard and to stop for multiple red lights.
The 29-year-old also drove on the wrong side of the road to overtake another car around a blind bend.
At Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday, Sheriff David Hall released him on bail and disqualified him.
The sheriff ordered reports before sentencing on June 21.
Single punch
The victim of a one-punch assault at a Dundee pub required thousands of pounds worth of dental work. Dale McClure, 23, admitted the assault in Tam’s Bar, Rosebank Street, in March 2020.
Murder charge
A second man has been charged with the murder of a Polish national who was found dead in a burned-out car more than three years ago.
The body of Rafal Lyko, 36, was discovered in Greenhall Park, Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, on February 11 2019.
The father-of-one travelled to Scotland from his native Poland two days before he was found dead.
He had just visited his parents in Auchterarder.
Darren Owen, 22, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and made no plea to an allegation of murder.
The case was continued for further examination and Owen was remanded.
Earlier this month, Thomas Wilson made no plea when he appeared before the same court charged with murder.
The 25-year-old from Glasgow was released on bail.
Death inquiry
The inquiry into the death of Sheku Bayoh heard from PC Nicole Short. She told of her terror during the Kirkcaldy man’s arrest and in a statement given shortly afterwards, said his death was” unavoidable”.
Attacked parents
A “raging” son attacked his 61-year-old dad during a drunken outburst at his family’s home in Coupar Angus.
Neil Hutton appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted the assault on November 6 last year.
The court heard Hutton, with his father and mother, had been drinking at the family home in Brodie’s Yard.
“At about 10pm, his mother asked him to walk the dogs,” said Fiscal Depute Rebecca Kynaston.
“When he returned, he appeared to be in a raging mood. He was shouting and swearing.”
Hutton then punched his father in the face several times.
Ms Kynaston said: “Mr Hutton Snr fell over to the floor.
“The accused’s mother called the police.”
The victim was left with bruises to his face and head.
Hutton, of Hay Street, Coupar Angus, is now trying to repair the relationship with his parents, Sheriff Martin Edington was told.
Sentence was deferred for background reports until June 22.
Harrassment
Pining ex-boyfriend Gary Campbell tried to “win back” his partner by bombarding her with more than 400 text messages and continued to harass his former girlfriend, even after she told him to stop. He was given unpaid work and a non-harassment order.
Teen danger
The teenager who burned down Viewforth High School has been fined after speeding out of a Kirkcaldy woodland on an unregistered and uninsured motorcycle, crashing into a car and sending a pillion passenger hurtling through the air.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had no lights on despite driving the vehicle in the black of night.
He careered out of woodland near Dunnikier Way in Kirkcaldy on October 16 at speed and with a rear passenger, colliding with a Ford car.
He admitted driving carelessly and without insurance, and was banned for three months and fined £90 by Sheriff Robert More.
The boy also admitted riding an unregistered motorcycle without insurance on nearby St Clair Street on August 24.
For this, he was fined £45 and disqualified for 56 days.
