A robber who held up a 78 year-old shop worker later tried to steal a till from another store.
Barry Stewart first struck on September 11 2019 at the Court Street News shop on Court Street, near where he had been living in Dundee.
The 31 year-old struggled with pensioner Mohammed Khan, before assaulting him and escaping with more than £700 in cash.
On February 1 this year, Stewart then went into the Value Mart store in Dundee’s Dundonald Street after it closed for the evening but staff were still inside.
This raid was also captured on CCTV.
Stewart swung a Stanley knife at owner Mohammed Allaudin, who bravely challenged the thug.
Stewart then appeared set to leave but returned to grab the till.
Despite repeatedly trying to yank it away, he was unable as it was still plugged into the wall.
Stewart was forced to escaped empty handed and was soon arrested.
However, quizzed about the allegation, he stated: “It is b*****s”.
Prosecutor Nicola Gilchrist told the High Court in Glasgow how the victims of both raids were affected by the ordeals.
She said Mr Khan had been left scared and was off work for a number of weeks.
Mr Allaudin meantime remains “anxious” being at his shop on his own.
Stewart pled guilty to charges of robbery and attempted robbery.
His lawyer Jonathan Crowe said: “He has had a lifelong addiction to hard drugs.”
Lord Scott remanded Stewart in custody and deferred sentencing until next month for reports.
At the time, Court Street News boss Rao Saim hailed Mr Khan’s courage.
He said: “The staff member was very brave.
“I think from his perspective adrenaline has kicked in as the guy came behind the counter armed with a weapon before the struggle ensued.
“From the CCTV footage, you can see the man loitering around outside checking the scene before he enters.
“The worker pressed the panic alarm after the man left and the police were here within minutes.
“He is a hero for doing what he did.”
