Three Dundee carers have gone on trial accused of taking vulnerable adults to an “inappropriate” male strip show Christmas night out.
The trio are accused of ill-treating and wilfully neglecting people in their care by taking them to the “full-frontal” strip show in December 2018.
It is alleged they took two residents from the Linlathen Neurodisability Centre, in its minibus, to Baxter’s Function Suite on Raglan Street for the show.
Caitlin Gibb, Shannon Briggs and Samantha Brunton deny the charge.
They deny drinking alcohol while in charge of the female residents and allowing them to drink alcohol without supervision.
One of the complainers, Sandra McGowan, has since died, due to Covid-19.
‘Bucket list’ treat
Lisa Dolan, 47, was a resident at Linlathen Neurodisability Centre when the incident allegedly occurred.
She gave evidence at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday afternoon.
Ms Dolan, a wheelchair user, said she only agreed to go on the night out because it had been on the “bucket list” of another resident, who does not appear on the complaint.
She told the court she had expected the show to be something like the hit 90s film The Full Monty.
The comedy starring Robert Carlyle follows the fortunes of a group of out-of-work men who decide to put on a fundraising strip show.
Instead, Ms Dolan said she was exposed to a “full-frontal” dance from a male stripper.
She said: “I was a wee bit drunk at the end of the night.
“One of the strippers came up to me, he was full frontal (nude).
“He put his leg over the side of my chair and sat on my knee.
“I didn’t know what was going to happen.
“I tried to push him away. He did go away.”
Alcohol claims
The court was told senior staff members, including staff nurse Maureen Donnelly, were aware residents were being taken to an adult entertainment show at Baxter’s Function Suite.
The care home’s minibus was used to transport them there.
The venue has since been demolished.
Ms Dolan told the court she had “smelled” alcohol in Caitlin Gibb’s drink but could not say for sure if there was vodka in it
The court heard Gibb was not working during the hours the residents attended the show.
The charges
Gibb, 22, of Speckled Wood Court, Shannon Briggs, 24, Finlarig Place, and Samantha Brunton, 36, Balunie Avenue, all Dundee, deny the charge.
All three are alleged to have “ill-treated or wilfully neglected” two residents in their care by taking them out of the centre in the run-up to Christmas 2018.
They are alleged to have attended the Linlathen Neurodisability Centre while they were under the influence of alcohol on December 1 and taken out the residents
They are alleged to have conveyed the two residents to an adult entertainment show at Baxter’s Function Suite and allowed them to consume alcohol from the bar without supervision.
The carers are alleged to have consumed alcohol and failed to properly care for the duo.
It is alleged they allowed a “naked, male, adult entertainer to sit on the knee” of one woman while she was in her wheelchair.
The trial continues.
