Teenager ‘volleyed’ man at Kirkcaldy bus station for ‘your bird’s tidy’ comment

Lewis Kidd battered his victim at Kirkcaldy bus station.
Lewis Kidd battered his victim at Kirkcaldy bus station.

A teenager battered a man who told him his girlfriend was “fit” and stole about £130 worth of petrol from forecourts in Methil and Leven – all in the space of eight days.

Lewis Kidd, 18, assaulted the man at Kirkcaldy bus station then returned to “volley” him as he lay on the ground, at around 10:30pm on April 16 this year.

When charged, Kidd said the other man had “started it” and that it was “self defence.”

The teenager also admitted two petrol thefts when he appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.

Station assault

Procurator fiscal depute Amy Robertson told the court Kidd and two others had walked past the man before he remarked: “Your bird’s tidy.”

Kidd and the other man began arguing and the court heard he started walking towards the accused.

The fiscal depute said Kidd then punched his victim to the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

The assault happened at Kirkcaldy bus station.

Ms Robertson said: “While he was on the ground, the accused began to kick the witness to the head and body multiple times.

“It’s estimated this continued for around 10 seconds before the accused was led away by witnesses.

“The accused walked around 10 steps then turned round and sprinted back towards (the victim) and volleyed him in the legs.”

The court heard the assault victim did not suffer serious injuries but did have bruises to the leg and body and his face was swollen.

Kidd, of Kingsdale Gardens in Kennoway, pled guilty to repeatedly punching the man on the head, knocking him to the ground, and repeatedly kicking him on the head and body to his injury.

Petrol thefts

On April 16, he drove his Seat Ibiza car into a Sainsbury’s petrol forecourt in Leven‘s Riverside Road, filled the vehicle’s tank with fuel and made off without paying the £65.78 due.

The fiscal depute said he also stole £64.91 of petrol at a Shell garage in Methil‘s Wellesley Road on April 8.

Police systems identified the registered keeper of the vehicle in each case.

Kidd, a first offender, was told by Sheriff Ian Anderson that his sentencing will be adjourned until August 3 for the production of background reports.
