A Fife Hogmanay wedding turned sour when police were called to deal with the groom’s drunk brother, who assaulted officers and threatened to murder one and set another on fire.
Reiss Wilson, 23, was found by police being restrained by his brother on the ground outside the Keavil House Hotel in Crossford, near Dunfermline, in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Defence lawyer Calum Harris told Dunfermline Sheriff Court his client became “irate” after being woken by other wedding guests.
He had passed out after consuming too much alcohol.
Mr Harris said his client, who runs a family vehicle transportation business, had also “knocked his head through a window” at one point during the evening, which left him bleeding.
Prison warning
Procurator fiscal depute Zahra Bhatti told the court as police tried to help Wilson up from the ground outside the hotel, he bit one constable in the arm and then kicked another in the leg as he was being taken to the police van.
The fiscal depute said: “Thereafter he had stated he would murder (the constable) and slit his throat.
“The (other constable) attempted to reason but he stated he would set him on fire.”
The court heard Wilson, who has both ADHD and Asperger’s, had previous convictions for road traffic matters.
Sheriff William Gilchrist told him: “You are now adding to your record with offences involving violence.
“The consequences may not have been serious in terms of injury but clearly police officers, when carrying out their duty, do not need to be treated this way by you.
“Drink is the underlying explanation but it’s no excuse”
The sheriff sentenced Wilson to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work in relation to the assaults and warned prison is a “likely consequence” should he breach the order.
Wilson, of Carden Castle Park in Cardenden, was also fined £500 for the threatening and abusive comments made towards police officers.
