A Fife drink-driver was caught at nearly five times the legal limit after being spotted by a neighbour driving off in his car at a “very slow speed”.
Gordon Mowatt, 60, admitted the offence when he appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
Procurator fiscal depute Laurelle Johnstone told the court a neighbour had spotted him from their window “staggering” across Leven’s Scoonie Road, getting into his car and driving at “very slow speed” towards a roundabout at the end of the street.
The fiscal depute said the neighbour contacted police and about 25 minutes later, saw Mowatt returning.
Ms Johnstone continued: “He (Mowatt) parked his car and was said to be reversing.
“His car reversed up onto the pavement at one point before dropping back off.
“It was parked half on the pavement and half on the road.
“Police attended and saw the accused walking away from the vehicle towards his house and saw him unsteady on his feet, slurring words and smelling of alcohol.”
Mowatt was arrested and replied he was “sorry” before being taken to Kirkcaldy police station.
Mowatt, of Leven’s Scoonie Road, pled guilty to driving a car on June 25 this year after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of alcohol in his breath was 109mics/22.
Defence lawyer Martin McGuire said his client has no similar previous convictions.
He said Mowatt, who is currently unemployed, has been going to meetings to tackle alcohol misuse since June.
Sheriff Ian Anderson banned him from driving for 16 months and fined him £400.
