A Dundee dealer whose £10,000 stash of cocaine was discovered by a police sniffer dog during lockdown has been sent to prison for 13 months.
Jordan Dandie’s heavily pregnant partner wept in court as he was jailed three weeks before she is due to give birth to their child.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard how Dandie, 35, had the cocaine separated into individual wraps for sale on the streets of Dundee.
The court was told the dealer had previously been law abiding but decided to start selling cocaine after developing a drug habit.
He had taken the opportunity to make money during lockdown when he found it difficult to find paid employment, the court heard.
Solicitor Billy Rennie, defending, said: “He was offered an opportunity by someone who had been supplying to him.
“It occurred at a time when Covid caused him financial difficulties.
“It is the one significant error he has made in his life.”
‘No alternative’ to prison
Sheriff Paul Brown told Dandie: “You made a conscious decision to engage in the supply of a Class A substance, motivated by financial gain.
“You had a clear awareness and understanding of the scale of the operation.
“There is no suggestion you were pressurised into this.
“You chose to engage when the opportunity was presented to you.
“There was a considerable quantity of cocaine and cash.
“There is no alternative to custody.”
Police dog found drugs
Dandie, of Pitkerro Road, Dundee, admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine at his home on February 2 2021.
Fiscal depute Lora Apostolova told the court: “Police and a dog handler attended at his property with a search warrant.
“The accused was traced in the kitchen and placed in handcuffs.
“The police dog indicated several areas within the bedroom.
“There was a large quantity of cocaine – much of it sub-divided into street deals – and some of it mixed with benzocaine.”
Officers found cocaine worth £9,810 and more than £1,500 cash was found in a safe within Dandie’s home.
