Caroline McIntyre has a "history of violent offending".

A Carnoustie woman ripped the hair extensions from her neighbour’s head in a row over Facebook comments.

Caroline McIntyre, 46, assaulted the woman on their street in September 2020.

During the fracas – which was completely unprovoked according to the prosecution – McIntyre pulled out her victim’s false hair.

Police collected the extensions from the ground after arriving at the scene, Forfar Sheriff Court heard.

Assault

Depute fiscal Elizabeth Hodgson told the court: “The complainer and the accused lived on Dundee Street, Carnoustie.

“They had no reason to know one another and had never spoken.

“There was an exchange of Facebook messages about the accused’s husband, and the complainer believes these could have been the catalyst for what happened.

“At around 4.30pm on September 30 2020, the complainer was parked outside her home.

“There were a number of neighbours in the street.

“The accused passed by her car and an argument ensued.

“The accused crossed the road and approached the complainer, who remained in her car.

Dundee Street, Carnoustie.

“McIntyre grabbed the complainer by the hair and pulled her from the vehicle.

“She then threw her to the ground.

“She continued to pull her hair, which caused her extensions to be pulled from her head.

“She punched (her) to the face, which was witnessed by neighbours.

“Police were called. After they arrived they took statements and seized the hair extensions.

“The accused was arrested.”

Defence

Defence brief Nick Markowski, in mitigation for McIntyre, said: “She has significant health issues.

“She is impulsive and can make life difficult for herself.

“She has been out of trouble for 12 years.

“In relation to this incident, the complainer had lived on the street for a short period.

“There was some sort of message sent between the complainer and someone else.

“She said this upset her daughter and she ruminated on that and that’s why she acted this way.

“The complainer has moved away.

“She accepts the libel.

“She wants to put this matter behind her.”

Curfew

Ordering a curfew for McIntyre to remain in her home between 7pm and 7am, Sheriff Alison Michie said: “I am told this was an unprovoked assault against a neighbour sat in her car.

“I have heard from the Crown and have read from the report, you are not someone who appears before me as a first offender – you have a history of violent offending.

“I have considered the report, there are limited options available to me.”

McIntyre, was given a 15-week restriction of liberty order.
