A Fife man who smashed a glass off a pub wall, showering shards on another person, after a drunken argument has been fined.

Allan Normand, 21, of Grange of Lindores, appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to admit culpably and recklessly throwing the glass at a wall in McPhails bar, North Street, Leven on April 8 this year.

Solicitor David Bell said: “He’s in full time employment.

“He’s extremely intoxicated and there’s been some sort of argument in the pub.

“He’s thrown his glass, which was extremely reckless.

“It does seem an isolated incident.

“He has little recollection of what happened here.

“Fortunately it hasn’t resulted in any injury.”

The incident happened at McPhails, Leven.

Sheriff Alison McKay fined Normand £640 and told him that had somebody been struck by the glass, the charge would likely have been more serious..

She said: “I have to say, you don’t particularly give me the impression of being overly sorry and regretful about this.

“The Crown accept this was not a deliberate act on your behalf.

“I hope you learn lessons. You’re really lucky this glass didn’t hurt someone.”

Dog fighting pledge

The authorities will hunt down those responsible for “barbaric” animal cruelty such as that shown by Angus gamekeeper Rhys Davies, the Crown Office has pledged.

Davies, 28, was jailed for 210 days on Monday for neglecting a pack of dogs he had kept for hunting and fighting foxes and badgers.

Rhys Davies (centre) was part of a dog fighting ring.

The Crown office, Scottish SPCA and local wildlife watchdogs lined up to condemn people like Davies, who abuse the Angus environment and wildlife.

‘Pen-point- escape

Fife crack addict Charles McPhee has been locked up for brandishing a pointed item at Asda security guards who challenged over suspected shoplifting.

At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, he admitted the June 13 assault.

Having entered the Kirkcaldy supermarket at around 11.10pm, a childhood acquaintance identified him as someone to keep an eye on.

He later tried to leave the store carrying a filled bag for life.

McPhee pulled the pointed item at the Asda in Kirkcaldy.

The security guards stopped him and McPhee, 47, now an inmate at HMP Perth, put a hand in his pocket and pulled out a silver item before brandishing it at the guards.

They described it as being a screwdriver but McPhee’s solicitor said it was the silver clip of a pen, which attaches to a breast pocket.

Pointing the item at the guards, McPhee said: “I’ll stick you with this,” before being allowed to flee.

Less than a week earlier, McPhee had been slapped with a 6am to 8pm curfew as part of bail conditions.

His solicitor said: “He went from extreme highs to extreme lows.

“This offence appeared to have taken place during the course of one of these.

“Mr McPhee’s been in hospital seeking help for his addiction.”

Sheriff James Williamson jailed him for 22 months.

Medical centre threats

Nurses at a Perthshire medical centre locked themselves in an office to escape a rampaging patient who told one nurse he could kill her with one punch. George Kennedy ranted he would murder “several people” during a disturbance at Crieff Medical Centre. The 27-year-old will be sentenced at the end of the month.

George Kennedy admitted a disturbance at the Kings Centre at Crieff Medical Centre.

Queue jumper

A Glenrothes man went on a foul-mouthed rant after a mum and her four-year-old son refused to let him skip the queue in a chemist.

Lee Bracey appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court and admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner on September 17 last year.

He arrived at the Lloyds Pharmacy at Minto Place where he encountered a queue but lost the rag when waiting customers would not let him get served first.

Bracey tried to push into the queue at Lloyds Pharmacy at the Glenwood Centre.

Fiscal depute Freya Anderson-Ward said: “The accused attended and asked to go in front of her and another witness.“

“The complainer stated ‘no, I’m in a hurry and there’s a queue’.

“The accused then called her a f***ing cheeky b*tch.

“The complainer asked the accused not to speak like that in front of her son.”

Blaney made further offensive comments and police were contacted.

Sheriff Ian Anderson deferred sentence on the 42-year-old, of Ralston Court in Glenrothes, until August 26.

From the dock, Bracey – aided by a walking stick – said: “I got called a m*ngo because of the way I walk.”

As he left, after pleading guilty, he said: “It’s all lies, man.”

Footballer fracas

A teenager who broke East Fife footballer Lucas Williamson’s jaw in an apparently “unprovoked” attack has been warned he could be jailed. Mr Williamson was knocked unconscious for two minutes after trying to walk away from the youth.
