A Tayport decorator has told a court his former girlfriend gouged at his face with her nails.
Samantha McQueen-White, 27, denies assaulting the father of her child and ex-partner Andrew Innes, 36, at his home on Jubilee Buildings, Tayport, in November 2013.
McQueen-White, who was 19 at the time of the alleged offence, is also accused of smashing a television, approaching Mr Innes with a knife and stabbing it through a door.
A trial is under way at Dundee Sheriff Court, with Mr Innes and his sister Ashley both providing evidence this week.
Reported after court case loss
Mr Innes, who was 28 when the assault is alleged to have occurred, told the court the assault lasted around 25 minutes.
He reported the incident to police in April 2021, nearly seven years later.
It followed a small claims court case which ruled in McQueen-White’s favour following a dispute over non-payment of a family holiday to Florida in 2019.
Mr Innes said the couple had been together for four to five years and have a son together.
He said the incident started after he picked her up from a gala in Balmullo where she had “gotten into an altercation with another women”.
He said: “She was quite hyper. I refused to let her in the house.”
He said she thought the house keys were in his van and began hitting it with her shoe.
‘She put her nails down my face’
Mr Innes said: “She took her shoe off and tried to smash the windows.
“She then hit the bonnet. She appeared crazy.
“The shoes had a big sole and a flat heel.
“She took a bread knife from the kitchen.
“I said I would use self-defence if she came toward me.
“She stabbed it in the door to the water tank.”
Mr Innes said he called his sister and McQueen-White’s mother but did not want police involvement.
“She started to hit me. She scratched me, put her nails down my face.”
Didn’t want police involved
The court was shown images, taken by Ashley Innes, allegedly in the aftermath of the assault.
She told the court she entered the house and saw the TV was smashed and a laptop was on the floor.
“I wanted Andrew to call the police but he did not want them to get involved,” she said.
In cross-examination, Mr Innes acknowledged he had been taken to a small claims court by McQueen-White following a 2019 holiday to Florida, after the couple had broken up.
Mr Innes said he had given £40 of around £1,800 paid for the trip.
McQueen-White, of Dunedin Park, Balmullo, denies the charges.
The trial was adjourned until September 13.
