Two sisters have admitted assaulting a woman and a man after a funeral in Perthshire.
Casey and Shareen McGivern were dressed in pink when they flew into a rage during a “heated discussion” outside a property in Blairgowrie.
The pair shoved Chelsea Lochrane to the ground, before striking her on the head, kicking and punching her.
When local man David Melville tried to intervene, 18-year-old Casey bit him on the arm.
The sisters appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted assaulting Ms Lochrane to her injury at an address in Davie Park Place on September 30 last year.
Casey, of McDonald Crescent, Rattray, also pled guilty to attacking Mr Melville.
Argument followed wake
Fiscal depute David Currie told the court: “At around 7.20pm, parties were together following a funeral earlier that day.
“Essentially, an argument – or rather a heated discussion – broke out between the accused and the complainers.
“Ultimately, things escalated and Casey McGivern has pushed the complainer, Ms Lochrane.”
Shareen, 21, of Newarthill Road, Motherwell, also shoved Ms Lochrane, knocking her down.
The assault continued as their victim lay on the the ground, said Mr Currie.
“This resulted in her being injured.
“She suffered a sore neck and had grazes to the knees.”
He said: “Mr Melville became involved in an attempt to separate the parties.
“In doing so, he was bitten on the arm by Casey McGivern. That resulted in no injury.
“Matters were then reported to the police.”
Victim ‘voiced her grievances’
Solicitor Paul Ralph said neither sister had criminal convictions.
“Chelsea is a cousin of theirs. She wasn’t at the funeral.
“The funeral was for the infant of a friend who had sadly passed away.
“The theme was to dress in pink.
“A group of them, including the friend, were together after having a wake of some kind.”
Mr Ralph said: “At that time, while sitting in the open air and trying to make sense of things, Ms Lochrane was in the vicinity.
“For whatever reason, she chose this day to voice her grievances.
“Things escalated and at one point Ms Lochrane was on top of Shareen.
“Mr Melville tried to separate the pair of them.
“Chelsea came to her sister’s aid and it was unfortunate what happened.”
Mr Ralph said while the McGiverns and Ms Lochrane had “not exactly made up,” the matter had been since “put to bed”.
Sentence deferred
Sheriff Francis Gill told the pair: “The court is concerned that you both kicked and punched the complainer to her injury.
“And in your case, Casey McGivern, you bit the complainer.”
The crown accepted not guilty pleas to allegations the sisters behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm.
Sentence was deferred for background reports until October 26.
